Without safe water and adequate sanitation, disease can spread fast. But for some people in Bangladesh, clean, and safe toilets aren’t something they can count on each day. However, the fact that one in three people don’t have access to a toilet isn’t widely known, particularly in countries like the UK.
To help spread the word, Kimberly-Clark’s Andrex brand in the UK offered people passing through London’s King Cross Station the chance to spend time in the streets of Bangladesh, via virtual reality glasses. Taking a first-hand look at daily life without a toilet was an eye-opening experience for participating Londoners, who couldn’t believe so many people went without basic sanitation.
In 2017, positive progress has been made. Andrex committed to donating at least £100,000 to WaterAid to improve sanitation facilities in Dhaka, Bangladesh as part of the Toilets Change Lives program and has positively impacted more than 70,000 people in need..
