In addition to our focus on reducing our natural forest footprint in half by 2025, we support efforts that raise awareness and build the market for responsibly sourced forest products.
In 2017, we participated in the Forest Stewardship Council’s (FSC) first-ever Asia Pacific business forum, which connected local and international buyers and brands with more than 100 FSC certificate holders from China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
For over 10 years, we have had FSC’s certification on the packaging of Kleenex, Cottonelle, and Scott paper products to demonstrate our commitment to the responsible management of the world’s forests, which are essential in addressing climate change, conserving biodiversity, and ensuring that our business has a resilient, healthy supply chain. We also invest in partnerships, events, and consumer campaigns that raise awareness about the importance of sustainable forestry.
Across Asia, demand for responsible forest products has expanded greatly. Both consumers and professional customers understand how responsible management of forests in Asia helps support clean air and fight climate change.
While we do not currently source forest products from South East Asia, our participation in this event helped us further understand the local challenges and opportunities in expanding the market for FSC in the region. It also gave us a chance to share our experience using the FSC certification and learn from local suppliers and other industry leaders. "By coming together with like-minded companies, we have an opportunity to share and learn about best practice and help spur market demand for certified fiber creating a win-win for business and the environment," said Chris Messer, Kimberly-Clark’s Asia Pacific sustainability lead, who spoke at the event.
